Late Starts

Please be assured that this is an effort to SAFELY maximize education should weather or other unforeseen factors become an issue.

  • Late Start time for CRE is 10:40 a.m.
  • No AM Kindergarten Preschool on Late Start days

In an effort to make sure that our students miss as few days as possible while staying safe, District No. 70 has implemented a district-wide Late Start Plan for days when weather or other issues dictate a need for safely getting our students to school.  The decision for a Late Start will be made by region:  Pueblo West, Mesa, or Mountain Schools.  You should have received a letter from our district office explaining the Late Start Plan.

Following are a few items to consider when it is decided that a region will have a Late Start Plan:

  • The Late Start will be a two (2) hour delay; therefore, the beginning time for all Pueblo West Elementary Schools will be 10:40 a.m.  Bus schedules for student pick up will also be delayed by two hours.
  • On a Late Start day, morning kindergarten and morning pre-school will be cancelled.    Afternoon Preschool and Kindergarten will be held as normally scheduled.  Buses that pick up the PM Kindergarten students will also run as usual.
  • A Late Start will be announced by local radio and television stations.  The district regions that will be affected by a Late Start will be reported by radio or television stations.
  • On days that Pueblo West experiences a Late Start, the Pueblo West Elementary Schools will NOT be open to receive students until 10:40 a.m..  Please do not drop off your student(s) before this time on such days.  Again, buses will run on a two hour delayed schedule.
  • We ask that parent consider a Back-up Plan that you carefully discuss with your child(ren) for students whose child care plan may be affected by a Late Start.
  • The decision for a Late Start will always be made by district administrators and will be reported to radio and television stations by 6:00 a.m..  This should give parents time to make arrangements for students that might need child care for the two hour Late Start.
