Enrollment Procedures

Steps to Enroll

Resident Students

  1. Contact the school in the attendance area in which you reside. It is best to call ahead and make an appointment.
  2. The school will be glad to enroll your child if:
    • You reside in the attendance area for that school. You may be asked for proof of residency (utility bill, rental or lease contract, home purchase contract, etc.).
    • You have a report card and /or a withdrawal form from your child's previous school.
    • You provide a birth certificate if you are moving from out of state.
    • No fees or fines are duke to your child's previous school (withdrawn in good standing).
    • Necessary immunization records are provided. State law requires that students must have proof of immunization records at the time of enrollment, or provide a record of exemption. Inquiries regarding required immunizations should be made to the school office. Parents need to plan for necessary immunizations in advance of enrollment.
    • ALL of the above steps must be completed to finalize enrollment. KNOWINGLY PROVIDING FALSE INFORMATION MAY BE GROUNDS FOR DISENROLLMENT FROM SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 70.

Non-Resident Students

  1. Contact the school requested. Please call to arrange an appointment. No transfers of non-resident students will be approved after October 1st.
  2. The school will be glad to enroll your child if:
    • You complete an Application for Transfer Form.
    • Your request is approved based on space available in the grade, class, or programs offered in that school. Enrollment may be closed to non-resident students based on class size.
    • Upon arrival:
      1. A report card and/or a withdrawal form from your child's previous school is provided.
      2. You provide a birth certificate if you are moving from out of state.
      3. No fees or fines are due to your child's previous school (withdrawn in good standing).
      4. Necessary immunization records are provided. State law requires that students must have proof of immunization records at the time of enrollment, or provide a record of exemption. Inquiries regarding required immunizations should be made to the school office. Parents need to plan for necessary immunizations in advance of enrollment.
      5. If the student is not residing with his/her legal guardians, a Delegation of Custodial Power Form must be filed with the school requested.
      6. Transportation to and from school must be provided by the parents. School Buses are not available to non-resident students.

Denial of Admission

A student may be denied admission to a District No. 70 school based on the following:

  1. Live outside the attendance area. Application for transfer of non-resident student must be submitted. No transfers will be approved after October 1st.
  2. The school program, class, or grade is at or above capacity.
  3. The student was expelled within the last twelve months or checked out of the sending school district with an expulsion pending.
  4. The student has been determined to have exhibited behavior on or off school property detrimental to the welfare or safety of other pupils or of school personnel including behavior which creates a threat of physical harm to the child or other children as defined in Colorado Revised Statutes.
  5. The student has been charged with a felony.
  6. The parents or the student knowingly provide false information in their application for transfer to Pueblo School District No. 70. Knowingly providing false information may be grounds for disenrollment from Pueblo School District No. 70.

Transportation

District No. 70 does not provide transportation for students living outside of the school attendance areas.

Re-application

Students living outside the school attendance area must reapply in writing to the building Principal by May 1st for entrance for the new fall school year.

Notice of acceptance will be provided by June 1st. Preference will be given to those students who attended the enrolling school the previous year.

Legal Requirements

Pueblo School District No. 70 will work with families requesting a transfer. Help on your part as a parent or guardian will ensure a smooth transition. We will need the following in order to help you:

  1. Verification of residency
    • Property sale contract
    • Rental contract
    • Utility statement
  2. Legal custodial arrangements
    • A notary of guardianship CRS 15-14-104
    • Divorce decree with guardianship rights
  3. Students not residing within the attendance boundaries of the enrolling school will not be accepted after October 1st. Students enrolling after October 1st may be asked to provide verification of residency.
