LANGUAGE ARTS

• Construct short research and writing projects that build knowledge through investigation
• Present and evaluate the effectiveness of organized and effective oral presentations
• Analyze and think critically about ideas expressed by others
• Critically read and respond in writing to fiction and informational fifth grade content texts and topics

 

MATH

• Develop skills to be life-long problem solvers using a wealth of strategies by utilizing real world and non-routine problems.
• Communicate mathematically. Read, write, and discuss ideas in the language of mathematics using correct vocabulary.
• Demonstrate mathematical reasoning by gathering data, providing evidence, and building an argument
• Build confidence in math abilities and how math plays an integral part in our lives

 

SCIENCE

• Ask questions and define problems that include scientific data
• Build, revise, and use simple models to represent events
• Design and conduct investigations that has variables to answer scientific questions
• Collect, display, and explain simple data
• Construct multiple explanations and investigate multiple solutions to problems
• Critique scientific explanations to determine validity
• Evaluate the merit and accuracy of ideas and methods

 

SOCIAL STUDIES

• Compare and contrast differing stories or accounts about past events, people, places, or situations, or other possible reasons for the differences in North America
• Gather and interpret information from various geographic tools research people and locations
• Describe the foundation of constitutional democracy in local, state, and federal government and citizenship in the United States
• Analyze how specific policies or citizen behaviors reflect ideals and practices

 

MUSIC

• Performs a variety of music on pitched and non-pitched instruments with some expressive elements in multi-part harmony
• Reads and creates melodies and rhythmic patterns
• Listens to and analyzes music from a variety of historical and cultural context
• Articulates the connection between music and other subjects

 

PHYSICAL EDUCATION

• Demonstrate mature form for all basic movement and rhythmic skills
• Demonstrate understanding of how to combine and apply movement skills
• Understand and apply basic principles of training to improving physical fitness
• Demonstrate understanding of skill-related components of fitness and how they affect physical performance
• Connect the health-related fitness components to the body systems
• Assess and take responsibility for personal behavior and stress management
