LANGUAGE ARTS

• Construct writing projects that build knowledge through investigation of a topic; develop questions gather information, cite sources, develop supporting visual, and communicate information
• Plan, draft, edit, revise and create a piece of writing to a given prompt
• Deliver organized and effective oral presentations for varied purposes and audiences using varied technological resources
• Think critically about ideas expressed by others and formulate thoughtful responses
• Read and respond in writing to fiction and non-fiction
• Use correct sentence formation, grammar, punctuation, capitalization, and spelling in a written piece to make the meaning clear to the audience

 

MATH

• Transfer an understanding of place value to a variety of contexts including fractions, whole numbers, decimals, measurement
• Model and reason about addition, subtraction, multiplication and division by utilizing mathematical structures such as place value, arrays, area models, and properties
• Solve real problems in a variety of contexts including measurement, area, and data analysis; by analyzing, and/or identifying and using the appropriate operation
• Evaluate and classify geometric figures by their properties

 

SCIENCE

• Develop an understanding of the scientific method
• Define problems, ask questions and develop hypothesis
• Design and conduct investigations that control variables to answer a question or test a design solution
• Build, revise, and use simple models to represent events and design solutions
• Collect, display, and explain data
• Construct multiple explanations and design multiple solutions to problems
• Form a conclusion based on collected data and evidence
• Understand the scientific process is ongoing and doesn’t end based on a single conclusion
• Examine, evaluate, question, and ethically use information to investigate questions about characteristics of living things

 

SOCIAL STUDIES

• Design and conduct historical inquiry investigations that are based on questions developed around Colorado history
• Use maps and other geographic tools to ask and answer questions about Colorado geography
• Describe origins, structure, and functions of the local and state government
• Ask and answer questions about the production and distribution of goods and services in Colorado

 

MUSIC

• Performs a varied repertoire of music on pitched and non-pitched instruments with some expressive elements in multi-part harmony
• Reads and creates melodies and rhythmic patterns in the appropriate clef
• Listens to and analyzes music of a varied repertoire including historical and cultural context
• Articulates the connection between music and other subjects

 

PHYSICAL EDUCATION

• Identify the major characteristics of mature movement and rhythmic skills
• Provide and receive feedback to and from peers using the major characteristics of mature movement and manipulative skills
• Explain how the health-related components of fitness affect performance when participating in physical activity
• Recognize the relationship between healthy nutrition and exercise
• Recognize the benefits derived from regular, moderate, and vigorous physical activity
• Identify and describe the benefits, risks, and safety factors associated with regular participation in physical activity
